Photographer as Witness: A Portrait of Domestic Violence
Photographer Sara Naomi Lewkowicz intended to shoot a series of photos of ex-convict Shane on a regular day. Her intention was to “paint a portrait of the catch-22 of being a released ex-convict: even though they are physically free, the metaphorical prison of stigma doesn’t allow them to truly escape.” Instead Sara witnessed Shane attack his girlfriend Maggie in front of their 2-year-old daughter Memphis and was able to document a rarely seen look at domestic violence. This is stunning and sad.
